City Living?

I just posted about the unrealistic expectations people have about buying an old home… another favorite I have are those who want to live in the city, near everything, BUT.. they want it to be quiet, they want lots of space, parking, and of course all for cheap.

Ok, who does not want everything they can possibly ask for.. but want is different from actually expecting you canĀ get those wishes.

Personally I never can comprehend how someone can look out the window of a city unit, and say.. “oh what a great view”.. when all I can see is filth, the tar tops of buildings, cars, homeless, and maybe a good ole’ crime in action.

Another thing that gets me is the city wish of “outdoor space”.. ahh the “fresh” air, oh wait that is a wafting stench of pollution, exhaust, trash, and the assorted “aromas” of the city. Then there is all the noise, again traffic, horns, people… HOW on earth can people relax in an “outdoor” space like that? It is not pleasant for sense of smell or hearing. It is filthy, if not from the pollution then from the flying rats (pigeons if you are unfamiliar).

… And “we can be close to things”. Let me see, you can be close to over priced boutiques, perhaps grab a nasty habit of drinking, smoking or just coffee addiction. How many times can you visit the same shops? How many times can you be pushed around in the crowds (and robbed)?

I know it is all a personal perception and preference, but one I can not grasp. And now my desire is not to be among chickens and smell manure.. there is a happy middle, believe it or not. I sure could understand the desire for the manure over pollution, the desire for living in the country vs your choice of crime in the city.

And people pay a HIGH price tag to live in small cramped spaces, with high crime, no parking, high pollution, excessive noise, etc etc… Why???

Give me nature, any day!
